Biography

Dr. Md. Nazirul Islam Dr. Md. Nazirul Islam is a horticultural scientist and Senior Specialist (Horticultural Crops) at the Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF), Bangladesh. He previously served as Director General of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), where under his leadership 43 crop varieties and 45 technologies were released to strengthen climate resilience. With over 33 years of professional experience, he has contributed extensively to crop research, varietal development, agricultural policy, and plant genetic resources conservation. Dr. Islam earned his Ph.D. in Horticulture (major) with a minor in Plant Genetic Resources Conservation and Utilization from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. His academic and professional work spans germplasm management, varietal innovation, and sustainable agricultural practices, ensuring food and nutritional security in the face of climate change. He has authored more than 36 national and international peer reviewed publications and presented his research at numerous international conferences. His contributions have been recognized with prestigious honors, including the Bangabandhu Krishi Padak (2017) for Coconut Mite Management Technology, the Best Original Research Paper Award (2016) from ICAR CPCRI, India, and a Letter of Appreciation (2019) from the FAO for promoting neglected plant species in food security initiatives.
