Biography

Prof. Andreas Roloff is a distinguished Forest Scientist and Tree Biologist from Germany, widely recognized for his academic and professional contributions to forest botany, tree biology, tree crown development, and tree vitality assessment. He has served as Chairman of the German Tree Institute and held a Senior Professorship in Tree Biology. He was also Chairman of the Board of “National Heritage Trees” of Germany and Chair of Forest Botany in the Department of Forest Sciences, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

Prof. Roloff served as Director of the Institute of Forest Botany and Forest Zoology and the Saxonian State Arboretum at Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) from 1994 to 2022. He completed his Master of Forestry Science in 1984, followed by a PhD in Forest Botany in 1986, focusing on the morphology of crown development in European beech. In 1989, he completed his habilitation on crown development and vitality assessment of selected tree species of the temperate zone. His extensive research and academic career have contributed significantly to the understanding, assessment, and conservation of trees and forest ecosystems.
