Title: Smart agriculture and horticulture based on internet of things (IOT) and artificial intelligence for sustainable crop monitoring and productivity optimization

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has accelerated the transformation of the agricultural sector toward Smart Agriculture and Smart Horticulture concepts through the utilization of the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and intelligent sensor technologies to improve agricultural efficiency and productivity. This study aims to develop an IoT and AI-based smart farming model for real-time horticultural crop monitoring to support sustainable agriculture. The proposed system is capable of monitoring environmental conditions such as temperature, soil moisture, light intensity, soil pH, and crop water requirements through integrated sensors. The collected data are analysed using Artificial Intelligence approaches to generate automated recommendations related to irrigation, fertilization, and early plant disease detection. This research employs a mixed-method approach with a socio-technical design integrating technological, human, and agricultural environmental aspects. Data collection was conducted through field observations, IoT sensor implementation, farmer interviews, and prototype testing in horticultural farming areas. The results indicate that the implementation of Smart Agriculture significantly improves water-use efficiency, accelerates crop monitoring processes, reduces the risk of crop failure, and enhances agricultural productivity. Furthermore, AI integration provides predictive capabilities and data-driven decision-making for more accurate farm management. This study is expected to contribute to the development of modern digital agriculture models that support food security, resource efficiency, and sustainable agricultural transformation in the Society 5.0 era.
