Title: Rehabilitation of polluted brownfield and technosoil using Miscanthus x giganteus: 16 years of experimentation

Abstract

Global energy needs and fossil fuel limitations spurred renewable energy, including biofuels. Brownfields, polluted by past industries, pose health risks. Phytoremediation uses plants like Miscanthus x giganteus to clean soils via degradation, stabilization, or extraction. Lab and field studies (16-year monitoring) analyse pollutant behaviour, rhizosphere, and plant adaptations. Phytohormones (IAA, ABA, ICA) modulate growth in contaminated zones. Root exudates and flavonoids boost PAH degradation via co-metabolism. Phytoremediation significantly reduces toxicity (BaP TTE, CCRI), offering sustainable remediation despite its slow pace.
